When visiting Holland, Michigan on a recent family vacation we discovered Tunnel Park. This is a perfect day trip adventure for the whole family. It’s a smaller Lake Michigan beach, but was less crowded than Holland State Park.
Things to Do at Tunnel Park
Children will delight in climbing the stairs and running full tilt down the dunes. At the top of the stairs, an overlook platform provides views of Lake Michigan’s sparkling shore.
The modern playground is great for children of multiple ages. It includes a large play structure and climbing rock wall. Spinning sitters, a sand funnel, as well as, swings provide fun for hours.
3. Aptly named, make sure to pass through the tunnel that leads you to Lake Michigan’s beach. Swim, splash and play in the waves or take in the stunning view.
4. Definitely a eye catching location for photo opportunities.
5. Utilize the many amenities. Restrooms, picnic tables, grills, and multiple sand volleyball courts make it a great spot to spend the day, pack a picnic or meet up with a group.

Hours: Tunnel Park is open from April 1 until the first snowfall, 7 AM – 10 PM.
Entrance Fee: Parking is $5/vehicle for Ottawa County residents or $7 for non-residents.

Ride Bikes to Tunnel Park from Holland State Park
It’s an ideal 2 mile bike ride from Lake Macatawa Campground if you’re camping at Holland State Park. The paved trail meanders along a beautiful shaded path. The route takes you along hilly, wooded areas and through quaint neighborhoods. We saw several deer and even a fox in route. This is one adventure the whole family will love.
