Ombre Leaves State Map
Welcome to Discover Anew! Come join us as we make these beautiful Ombre Leaves State Map.
Nature Challenge
As a proud Michigander, creating this fun state map was quite enjoyable. It’s a simple way to help children lear about the shape of their home state. An added bonus is that your family gets the satisfaction of creating nature art while spending time outdoors.
Goal The sole purpose of the activity is to get outside in nature, while learning about your state. Everywhere you look in nature you can find inspiration through intricate designs. I love to be creative and this is one way you can let your inner artist out.
Materials
Chose a simple outline image of your state as a reference from a physical map or online.
Seem to find a variety of leaves from trees, bushes or even perennial plants. If your region is lacking fall leaves, use different shades of green leaves or other nature materials like rocks, pine needles, acorns etc. Let your imaginations soar.
Tips
Chose a day or a sheltered area that devoid of wind to avoid frustration.
Collect a wide selection of colors to achieve an ombré effect.
Directions
Go on a hike to collect a large amount of leaves
First start by teaching your child about the shape of your state. Show them a map or trace the shape on the ground. Help them figure out where they live on their map, specifically their hometown or city.
Find a clear area either on the sidewalk, dirt, or even a picnic table.
Draw a simple outline of your home state with chalk or trace in the dirt.
Begin placing the leaves from dark to light in an ombre pattern.
I’d love to get one leaf map from each state. Bonus, add a small rock to the part of the map where your home town city is located.
