Fort Custer Blue Trail Loop

Fort Custer State Park

We ventured to Fort Custer, in Augusta Michigan for a late evening hike. There are numerous trails at Fort Custer to choose.

COST

Entrance to a Michigan State Park requires a Recreation Passport. Michigan residents can purchase a yearly pass for $13.00 with their vehicle registration. There's a $5 convenience fee (except for Belle Isle Park) when the Recreation Passport is not purchased at the time of your license plate registration renewal through the Secretary of State. Non residents can purchase a daily pass for $11 and an annual pass for $40 as of 1/1/24.

We parked at the equestrian trail head, so we could access the multi use blue trail, an easy 4 mile loop. This trail is an all purpose trail, so spring is a great time to hike it before you have to share it later in the season with horseback riders. The ice had yet to completely melt off the lake, so we had the trail to ourselves. We found the trail to be clean and easy to follow. The trail takes you around Jackson Hole Lake and offers lake views throughout. We saw geese, sandhill cranes, and a muskrat swimming in the water.

Snack Necklaces

On this particulate hike we made our favorite hiking snacks, Snack Necklaces, which you can read about in detail on this post. These are the best activity while camping that everyone will love.

Evening hikes are something we love, but they do take some planning. We hustled over after work hoping to have enough time for the entire 4 mile loop, but we ended up hiking the last half mile in the dark. Boy, were we grateful we brought our day pack with a headlamp inside.

Day Pack

I personally love my Teton Sport Oasis day pack, which you can find here on Amazon. It’s always a good reminder to come prepared when hiking.

Well that’s a wrap on Fort Custer’s Blue Trail! Whether you’re spending a day or a week visiting this Michigan State Park, you’ll easily fill your time with these incredible hikes and views. If this article was helpful, don’t forget to Pin and Save this post for later.
