DIY Plant Labels

DIY Garden Labels.png

Can you names all the plants in your garden? Do your children know the names of each flower? My first job was working at my family’s nursery where I spent hours learning the names of plants and flowers. Having signs for each plant and tree was crucial for acquiring this skill. Hoping to teach my children the plants in our own garden, we recently created these beautiful labels using natural materials from our yard.  These markers only require 5 simple household items.

ITEMS NEEDED:

Blossoms or Leaves

Flat Rocks

Mod Podge

Paintbrush

Sharpie Marker

After collecting all the items needed from around the house and yard, we headed outside to assemble our plant markers.

DIRECTIONS

1. Using your paintbrush, cover the flat surface of the rock with a generous coating of Mod Podge.

 2. While still wet, apply and press flatten leaves and blossoms on top of the layer of Mod Podge. *Remember to position the leaf with room to write the plant’s name above or below.

3. Cover the top of the flower with a coat of Mod Podge, once dry apply second coat if desired.

4. Use a thin tip permanent to label the rock with the name of the plant or tree.

Color fading did occur on some of the leaves and blossoms, but the majority stayed true to the original color. This project can continue throughout spring and summer as different shrubs, trees, perennials and annuals bloom. Don’t forget to pin it for later!
